Local Attractions in Kemah, Texas
Are you new to the Texas Gulf Coast? Are you just visiting the area? Either way, you’ll want to see all of the major attractions, and maybe even go off the beaten path a bit. Houston is, of course, the star, but many people come to see other sites, one of the most popular being the Kemah Boardwalk in Kemah, Texas. There are plenty of other places to go in this tiny town, however. Here are a few suggestions for places to explore in Kemah and the surrounding area.
Where to Stay
If you’re traveling with kids, you might want to stay at one of the hotels on the Boardwalk that cater to families, or perhaps an Air BnB vacation rental. No kids? Check out some of the local bed and breakfasts. Did you drive here in an RV? No problem! There are Kemah rv sites as well that can handle any size rig, from camper trailers to diesel pushers.
Things to Do
Kemah and the surrounding area has a thriving arts and music community. There are several galleries in the vicinity of the Boardwalk, but if you’re willing to walk or drive a bit extra, you’ll find many more tucked away in unlikely spots such as repurposed shopping centers. Besides the obvious nightly music at the Boardwalk, there are many clubs and restaurants that host local and sometimes even well-known musicians. You could also check out the local fishing and watersports, and there are nature walks and scenic overlooks sprinkled throughout the area.
Places to Go
Kemah and the adjacent towns are famous for restaurants. Some of the Houston Area’s best food is here, in places like T-Bone Tom’s, which was featured in Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, and Tookie’s, which has been a local institution since the 1970s.
Don’t limit yourself or your family to the most obvious attractions. Be willing to go the extra mile, and you’ll find hidden gems guaranteed to make your experience even better!
